IPRC core faculty member and assistant professor of maternal and child health at Gillings School of Global Public Health, Meghan Shanahan, PhD, received the 2019 Office of the Provost Engaged Scholarship Award for Engaged Research.
This award recognizes faculty members for excellence in engaged scholarship serving North Carolina communities exemplified through their “responsiveness to community concerns and strong community partnerships.” Shanahan was recognized for her work promoting child, family, and population well-being in North Carolina in collaboration with stakeholders and partner agencies from across the state.
Anna Austin, a doctoral student and graduate research assistant at IPRC, nominated Shanahan for this award.
“Through [her multiple projects], Dr. Shanahan has built strong and lasting relationships between state and local agencies and the University. She engages in true collaboration by consistently seeking and valuing the input of her partners and shows her commitment to this type of collaboration by working to meaningfully incorporate partner input into every aspect of her research,” Austin wrote in her nomination statement. “She is held in high-regard by state and local partners, both as a knowledgeable and skilled scientist and as someone who genuinely wants to contribute to the wellbeing of children and families in North Carolina.”
Shanahan was honored at the award ceremony on April 1 hosted by the Carolina Center for Public Service.
