It is with great sadness that IPRC shares the passing of Aliza Kate Liebman. Aliza was an alumna of the UNC Department of Epidemiology’s doctoral program and a founding member of the IPRC-supported Gender-Based Violence Research Group.

Aliza was passionate about epidemiology and global public health. As a graduate student at UNC, she co-founded the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Research Group, which has since grown into a vibrant campus-wide consortium. IPRC Associate Director Dr. Beth Moracco, who worked with Aliza as a faculty advisor for the GBV Research Group, shared: “Aliza’s tenacity, commitment to gender equity, and leadership skills led to the creation of a unique, student-led group focused on the prevention of gender-based violence that has had a tremendous impact on the campus and beyond. Her legacy will live on in generations of students and their work to combat gender-based violence.”

Aliza will be dearly missed. Our thoughts are with her loved ones.

Aliza’s obituary may be viewed here. In lieu of flowers, donations in Aliza’s memory may be donated to Partners in Health.  In addition, a GoFundMe campaign has been created to support Aliza’s husband and toddler son here.
