The SYNC application deadline has been extended to Tuesday, November 1st, 2022 at 6 PM. This is to allow applicant communities more time to assemble their community teams and prepare their applications. We will hold one additional office hour session using the Zoom link below. This session will occur on Monday, October 24th from 1 – 2 PM.

We will interview select teams in early to mid-November, and all applicants will be notified of their status by mid-December at the latest.

The North Carolina Division of Public Health’s Injury and Violence Prevention Branch and UNC Injury Prevention Research Center are excited to launch the application for year two of Strengthening Systems for North Carolina Children (SYNC).

SYNC is a no-cost training opportunity for new or existing community coalitions in North Carolina who are interested in using a systems thinking approach to prevent adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) in their community. The purpose of SYNC is to support North Carolina communities with high ACEs burden in furthering their understanding of how community systems and structures influence ACEs. This understanding is meant to help identify ways to strengthen systems and build community resilience to prevent ACEs.

Community teams will participate in an introductory webinar and three workshops, during which they will learn how to use a tool called causal loop diagramming (CLD) to create a map of the systems that may influence shared risk and protective factors (SRPFs) for ACEs in their community. They will use this map to begin identifying key points on the system they can target to build resilience and mitigate ACEs. After completion of the workshops, teams will have the skills needed to update their map and keep their ACEs prevention work moving forward. Teams will also receive one year of technical assistance after completion of the workshops.

Workshops will be held in February and April 2023, and will be in-person in a location in or near your community.

Apply here.

Applications submitted by Tuesday, November 1st at 6:00 PM ET will receive priority. You can learn more about the project by reviewing our full information packet or watching our informational video.
