IPRC study of state firearm legislation and intimate partner violence homicide published in American Journal of Preventive Medicine
The American Journal of Preventive Medicine has published an article authored by Josie Sivaraman, IPRC graduate research assistant, and multiple IPRC core faculty members, including Drs. Shabbar Ranapurwala, Beth Moracco, and Steve Marshall. This important paper assesses the association between state firearm legislation and female intimate partner violence homicide. The authors analyzed data from 16 states from 2010 to 2014 using data from the National Violent Death Reporting System and the State Firearm Law Database.
The findings show that “more state-level restrictive firearm legislation is associated with a lower rate of female intimate partner homicides.”
